We look forward here at your Santa Clarita Public Libraries to seeing everyone coming back to enjoy storytimes and special programs that are sure to bring an unlimited amount of fun and learning experiences to all who participate. All three branches will offer storytimes for Baby Toddlers (6-36 months), 2’s and 3’s, and School Readiness (ages 3-5). Elementary Storytime is offered at the Valencia Branch for children in K-5th grade.
In the Baby Toddler storytimes you and your young one will enjoy singing, playing, listening to short stories, and interacting with other children and parents. Songs, rhymes, fingerplay, music, books, and so much more are all incorporated into a bonding and learning environment. Afterwards, age appropriate toys that may include puzzles, balls, and various manipulatives, are available for all to enjoy and help with bonding and making new friends.
With the 2’s and 3’s storytime, you will find the stories will be longer because of the longer attention span that they have developed. All of the elements of storytime involving music, rhymes and songs are still there, but are slightly more involved. Some toys are brought out that are more challenging than those given to the Baby Toddler group. An example would be puppets. Please note that different toys are chosen for each storytime at every branch.
School Readiness children are ready for longer stories involving higher content. New concepts will be taught and more manipulatives are brought out geared for the older child. Focus on these storytimes can range from learning about colors, shapes, counting higher numbers, days of the week, seasons, and so much more.
In addition to the regular storytimes, some special ones are also being offered that are sure to make your children squeal with delight! Dance Party (ages 3-5) is available at all three branches once a month. Let your child dance the day away. The exercise is free, the introduction to music is free, and the fun you will have dancing with them is priceless!
Tinkerlab (ages 2-5) is brought to you at Valencia Library and Old Town Newhall and gives children the opportunity to experience science, engineering and art through touch and play. If you and your child would like to start out with a mess and conclude with a storytime, then Canyon Country’s Movers and Shakers on Thursdays is the place to be!
As you can see, there is something for everyone and we look forward to seeing you beginning September 12.
