The Common Core State Standards now requires typing skills for not only technology but also for testing.
To assist with this, the library has been offering a program at all three branches for kids and teens to practice keyboarding and touch typing skills. The program will use a free platform called TypingClub. No registration is required for this and here are the times and dates:
Saturday, November 8
Valencia – 9 am – 10 am
Canyon Country – 10 am – 11 am
Saturday, November 22
Canyon Country – 10 am – 11 am
Newhall – 10 am – 11 am
Typing is a crucial skill to prepare for self-paced smarter balanced testing. Since typing skills are crucial in alignment with the CCSS, we recommend the platform we will be using for the keyboarding programs above.
For more information on the CCSS, have a look at the library’s Kids’ Space under Parent Tips for Helping Child Be Successful in School for Lower Elementary Kids and Upper Elementary Schoolers.
