Angie has been a children’s librarian at the Canyon Country Library for two years. She is the mom of two daughters who are in preschool. Thanks to her girls, Angie can sing all of the “Yo Gabba Gabba “ songs! Angie is the second oldest out of a family of four. One day, Angie declared to her family who lives in Tennessee, that she would someday move to Los Angeles. She attended school at Cal State LA getting an English degree. From there she went to UCLA where she received her Masters in Library and Information Science along with fellow children’s librarian Shannon Lane. Angela loves to read everything from Shakespeare and Steinbeck, to Captain Underpants, Junie B. Jones, and Wayside School. She is crazy about Mexican food. And, if you want to give her what she believes is the perfect meal, then put a burrito on a plate for her!

Would you mind telling us about some secret that most people would not know about you?
Some secret? I have been on multiple game shows. As I child, I was picked from the audience to play Bozo’s Grand Prize Game. As a college student, I won as a contestant on a game show called “You Don’t Know Jack” based on the computer game. I won enough money to cover the rest of my college tuition. I also won a cruise on a small game show called “On the Cover.” The lesson here is that spending your days learning trivial facts that will never matter in the real world can really pay off in the game show world.
What do you like best about your job?
I love helping kids find books that they are looking for. I love the excitement I see on their faces when I hand them the copy of “Dork Diaries” that they’ve been waiting to read. I love seeing kids excited about books just as I remember being excited as a kid.
What do you think is special about working at the Canyon Country Library?
I love working at Canyon Country because I really feel like this is a neighborhood library. I see a lot of the same faces all the time. There is a great sense of community here.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love to take my daughters on fun day trips. We love going to Disneyland, the Science Center, and the zoo. I am a huge fan of the beach too. I don’t like to swim in the ocean, but I love to play at the beach.
What do you do in an average day?
I don’t really have an average day because my days vary so much throughout the week. On weekdays, I usually start my morning by fixing problem books that are sitting on my desk. Then, I like to find some of the books that patrons have requested because I’m always curious about how easy or hard some of our books are to find. Next, I get ready for my storytime, which is the craziest part of my day. My storytimes involve lots of singing, reading, and playing. I am exhausted when it is done, but I have so much fun. After my storytime, I work on fixing more books and planning future events and storytimes.
“I love to be busy. I don’t sit still very well. I move a lot. In fact, sitting here answering all these questions has made me antsy. I usually don’t sit for this long.”
