Santa Clarita Library Grade Level Chess Championships

I am excited to announce that the Valencia Library will be hosting a FREE chess tournament in partnership with the California Youth Chess League.  The tournament will be Saturday, May 30, 2015.  For more information on the tournament, please view our events calendar.  Advanced registration is required.  Also, a special thanks goes out to the Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library for sponsoring the event.

The chess league will come to three of our Youth Chess Club sessions to provide some tournament prep training.  California Youth Chess LeagueThe dates and libraries are:

For parents with chess enthusiasts, I recommend this website.

Also, for further chess skill preparation for the tournament, I suggest you check out in juvenile nonfiction section under this Dewey number: 794.1.

Below are a few juvenile chess book recommendations:

Power ChessChess in ActionKids' Book of ChessChess From First Move

More chess books can also be found the adult nonfiction stacks under the same Dewey number.

If you are more of a techie, then I recommend a few websites and apps for learning and practicing chess.

Here are some websites:

Chess KidUSCF

ChesscademyChess About Dot Comlichess

I recommend this app for chess practice (Available on Google Play and the Apple Store):

Coach Jay's Chess Academy

Do note that although these websites and apps are free, they are often not the full version. Some do require a login name to be created to play chess and some have some sort of chat element.  Happy chess play and practice to you all. We are looking forward to having you at the Santa Clarita Library Grade Level Chess Championships.
