Our Spotlight this time is on Canyon Country Youth Services Librarian Shannon Lane. Enjoy getting to know her better!
What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of my job is helping patrons discover new resources and sharing a love of books with children. Reading has always been a big part of my life and I like to see a child’s love of literature grow.
How did you end up becoming a children’s librarian?
I’ve worked with children my whole life as a swim instructor, camp counselor and baby sitter. I was a nanny during my college years and throughout grad school. When I decided on a career as a librarian, it seemed natural to gravitate towards children’s programming.
Who do you look up to?
I look up to anyone who has worked hard to reach their goals, whatever they may be. I recently listened to I Am Malala on audiobook and find her to be very inspirational.
What are your favorite books?
Carnivores, The Sneetches, The Lorax, anything by Tamora Pierce or Patricia C. Wrede. Little Critter, Chrysanthemum, A Porcupine Named Fluffy. Rauld Dahl books…
What is your favorite part of the day?
I like early mornings, when it is still quite and I can plan out my day. It is a great time to gear up for the days programs and get excited about a new cataloging project.
What are your hobbies?
I like to read and go on hikes in my neighborhood.
What do we not know about you?
I have a twin sister, but we look nothing alike.
Please enjoy taking a look at some of Shannon’s favorite books!
