Ordinary People Change the World

Ordinary People Change the World

What is a hero?  Dictionary.com defines a hero as “a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character” or “a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal”.  In this wonderful series, Ordinary People Change the World, Brad Meltzer writes about inspirational people in history such as Martin Luther King Jr.,Rosa Parks and Abraham Lincoln.

These K-3 grade level books are written using the voice of the person the book is about and the illustrations depict the person throughout the book as a child thus connecting and further engaging with the young audience the books are intended for.  The author’s thoughtful choice of events manages to connect the negative ways that each of these ordinary people were different from others and illustrates how being determined and tenacious and committed one person can make a difference.  Even more importantly the author of this fabulous series points out how the difficulties that these famous people went through are some of the same that the children face now.  The books encourage and support children in their efforts to overcome obstacles and show the world what they are capable of doing as an ordinary person.
