Library 101 – What Should I Do if I Owe More Than $10?

As you may or may not know, once your fines reach $10 or more, you will not be able to use your library card. This means that no books can be checked out or renewed, holds cannot be placed, room reservations are not possible, and computer use is also on hold until fines are paid.

The good news is that there are several ways that these fines can be paid. You are always welcome to come to the library and pay your fines at the circulation desk. Please make sure you bring your library card. Staff members will take off whatever amount that you want to pay. If you need to pay just a little at a time, that is totally fine with us! Remember, no interest is accrued.

Paying at the self check-out machines is another option you can choose to pay off fines. You can use a credit card, but you will not be able to use cash at these machines. For cash purposes you will need to go to the front desk.

The third options is to pay at home. This option does require a minimum payment of $5.  Log on to santaclaritapubliclibrary.com and in the top right corner area you will select “My Account”.  This will take you to a page that asks you for your library card. Go ahead and select Pay fines and fees Online located on the left side under Santa Clarita Library Links. At this point you will input your library card number and pin. You will then be able to pay your fines.

And lastly, your balance does not need to get to $0 in order for you to be able to use your card again.  As long as you can get the amount you owe to under $10, then you will be able to again enjoy having full library privileges!
