Library 101 – Holdup! You have movies?!?!

Not everyone wants to spend $75 taking their whole family to the movie theater anymore. Between ticket prices, popcorn prices, the constant need to go potty, and the whining that they want to go home, movie experiences are not always an ideal way for a family to spend the weekend. The library understands this, and we invest in all the top movies when they come out on DVD. This way, your family can experience all the new movies without the expense or experience of going to the theater.

Last year, I didn’t want to waste any of my hard earned money on My Little Pony: The Movie, but I was more than happy to check out the DVD for my 6-year-old daughter for free as soon as it came out (please don’t be offended My Little Pony crew). When I took my daughter to see Coco in the theater, I missed many moments due to multiple trips to the bathroom and lots and lots and lots of questions about the plot. How are all those people dead? How are they walking on flowers? Why is he dressed like that lady? Why is his skin disappearing? Why did he steal a guitar? Trust me, I have more. Soon, I will be able check out Coco from the library for free so I can catch all the moments I missed the first time around.

Notice, I said soon, even though Coco is already out on DVD. That is because there is already a wait-list for the movie. Our library invested in nine copies of the movie, but they are all already checked out or on hold, waiting for someone to check them out. This is why you may visit the library and question whether or not we invest in new movies. I can assure you that we do. The newer titles do not sit on our shelves long, though, because they are in such high demand.

If you are seeking a new movie from the library, the best thing to do is place a hold request for the movie. You can do this from home or from the library. Simply go to our website and search for the title you are looking for in the search bar. When you find the movie you want, click on “place request” which you will find on the right side of the page. When you click there, you will be asked to put in your library card and pin number. Then, you can choose which branch you would like to pick up the movie at.

You may also visit any of our reference desks in the library and have an employee place the request on your behalf. We are happy to do that for you anytime you need.

This way, you don’t have to keep visiting the DVD section of the library, disappointed that the movie you want is gone. This way, we will hold the movie just for you when your turn on the wait-list comes. You will have ten days to pick up the movie at the library. Just make sure you bring the card you entered when you placed your request because that is the only card that will be able to check out the held DVD.

Up to ten DVD’s can be checked out to each library card at a time. All DVD’s are due back in one week. We have the newest titles, classic titles, and titles in between. We even have tv series available as well. Don’t want to deal with discs anymore? Through our website, you can stream videos as well. Have fun looking at all we have to offer.
