Importancia de la Lectura
La lectura es una de las habilidades más importantes que los niños deben adquirir para tener éxito en la escuela. Ellos necesitan cultivar dichas habilidades que les ayudarán a construir un amor permanente por la lectura y los cimientos sólidos para lograr el éxito académico.
Sin embargo, no todos los niños están logrando los niveles óptimos de lectura. Algunos estudiantes que provienen de hogares cuya primera lengua no es inglés, presentan dificultades para leer con fluidez en el lenguaje inglés. Este problema representa un reto para los padres de familia, maestros y educadores. Algunas preocupaciones expresadas por los padres de familia son: “Mi niño ha salido bien bajo en lectura”, “Mi niño solo quiere jugar game-boy, no quiere leer”, “Mi hijo está en tercer grado pero la maestra dice que está leyendo en el nivel de primer grado” “Estoy buscando extra-ayuda para que mi hijo mejore su nivel de lectura” etc.
Los hábitos de lectura se empiezan a cultivar desde la infancia. Cuando un niño lee un libro, el despertará su curiosidad, ampliará sus conocimientos y estimulará su imaginación. Además de las habilidades de lectura, los niños necesitan ver en los más grandes la costumbre de leer y vivir entre libros, revistas y textos interesantes. Por ello padres de familia, maestros y educadores debemos contribuir para que nuestros niños se conviertan en grandes lectores.
La Biblioteca Pública de la Ciudad de Santa Clarita promueve el desarrollo de habilidades de lectura y educación temprana de los niños, con la presentación de cuentos para todas las edades. Cada semana ofrece cuentos para bebés, cuentos para niños de 2 y 3 años y cuentos para niños en preparación escolar. Traiga a sus niños a la biblioteca para leer y participar en emocionantes y divertidas actividades educativas.

The Importance of Reading
Reading is one of the most important skills that children should have in order to succeed in school. They need to cultivate such skills that help them to build a long lasting love for reading and solid foundations for success in their academic area.
However, not all the children are achieving optimal reading levels. Some students who come from homes whose first language is not English, have difficulties to achieve fluency when reading in English. This problem represent a challenge for parents, teachers and educators. Some concerns expressed by parents are: “My child has not done well in reading,” “My kid just wants to play game-boy, he does not want to read,” “My child is in third grade but the teacher says that is reading at the first grade level “” I am looking for extra help for my son to improve his reading level” etc.
The habits of reading begin to grow from childhood. When a child read a book, he will awake their curiosity, expand their knowledge and stimulate their imagination. In addition to reading skills, children need to see in the adults the habit of reading and living among books, magazines and interesting texts. That is why parents, teachers and educators must contribute so that our children become great readers.
The Public Library of the City of Santa Clarita promotes the development of reading and early education skills of children, with the presentation of storytime for all ages. Each week the library offers storytime for babies, storytime for children of two and three years, and storytime for kids who are getting ready for school. Bring the children to the library to read and participate in exciting and fun educational activities.
