Break out the Mother Goose Rhymes!

Real Mother Goose book cover

Mother Goose Rhymes, or nursery rhymes, have an unknown origin (poetry foundation mother goose), but are of utmost importance to promoting literacy and language fluency in early childhood. Organizations like Mother Goose on the Loose use nursery rhymes to foster a “love for learning through nursery rhyme activities and music and music that will ensure their success throughout their school experiences” as well as developing social and emotional skills, motor and language skills as well as general knowledge of the world. Mother Goose on the Loose.

I love to use nursery rhymes in storytime. The kids respond so well to the rhyming language and all the fun ways that we play with them. From lap bounces to circle dances, there are so many creative ways to bring these traditional poems into your child’s life! The King County Library System has a treasury of mother goose rhyme videos on their website, Tell Me A Story- Baby Rhymes. There as so many to choose from!

We have lots of fun Mother Goose rhyme books in our system! Check these out today! SCPL Mother Goose Books
