Los libros ilustrados son muy importantes en la promoción de la lectura, particularmente, para los niños de temprana edad. A través de las ilustraciones, los lectores tempranos pueden aprender a conocer el mundo que les rodea o trasladarse a espacios de fantasía o ficción. De esta manera, a través de los libros se van adquiriendo las habilidades necesarias que constituyen los cimientos de la lectura.
Entre los aspectos indispensables para ganar la atención de los niños están: las ilustraciones coloridas y claras; y los temas apropiados a la edad de los niños, en otras palabras, para que los temas sean interesantes para ellos deben estar vinculados con las experiencias que están viviendo o con lo que está pasando a su alrededor.
Ya que el niño vive en un mundo de fantasía, los cuentos o historias disparatadas, extraordinarias o imaginarias, lecturas sobre animales o sobre cosas que le son familiares captivan su atención y le alimentan el mundo de fantasía en que vive. También los cuentos que incluyan muchas repetición, y que permiten interactuar o ser parte de la historia se constituyen en los favoritos para los niños.
Si queremos que ellos se vuelvan lectores curiosos y desarrollen una mentalidad creativa debemos ponerlo en contacto con los libros ilustrados desde que son bebés. Existen muchos tipos de libros ilustrados para satisfacer las diferentes preferencias de los niños. La Biblioteca Pública de la Ciudad de Santa Clarita cuenta con una amplia variedad de libros ilustrados en Español e Inglés. “El tigre y el ratón”, “Si le haces una Fiesta a una Cerdita”, “De la Cabeza a los Pies” son entre otros algunos de los libros ilustrados para compartir con nuestros niños.
El tigre y el ratón.
Es un cuento escrito por Keiko Kasza. Ratón y Tigre son buenos amigos, pero Tigre es mucho más grande que Ratón y toma ventaja de su tamaño para hacerle la vida imposible a raton. Llega un momento que raton trata de vengarse. Tigre tiene que reconocer finalmente que para conservar a su amigo, debe compartir todo equitativamente y unirse a él tanto en las buenas como en las malas.
Si le haces una Fiesta a una Cerdita. 
Este cuento es protagonizado por una simpatica cerdita. Las autoras Laura Numeroff y Felicia Bond han creado esta otra historia sobre la cerdita siguiendo la línea del famoso cuento “Si le Das una Galletita a un Raton.”
Si le haces una fiesta a una cerdita, te pedirá unos cuantos globos. Una accion o gesto para agradar a la cerdita desencadena muchos mas requerimientos que se vuelven exigencias. Cuando le das los globos, querrá decorar la casa, despues querra ponerse su vestido favorito y en seguida invitar a sus amigos etc……
De la Cabeza a los Pies.
Este es un cuento interactivo escrito por Eric Carle, que mediante la representación de diferentes animales, ensena las partes del cuerpo. El cuento invita a los pequeños a imitar sus movimientos golpeando en el piso, moviendo la cabeza, las caderas, dando palmadas, pies.
Picture Books for Children
Picture books play a very important role in the promotion of reading. especially for young children. Through the illustrations, beginning readers can learn about the world around them or visit fantastical or fictional places. Picture books help children acquire the necessary skills that are the foundation of reading.
Among the essential aspects of a good picture book is the ability to capture the attention of young children through colorful and clear illustrations, and topics appropriate to children. In other words, the topics interest children because the children can relate them to their life experiences and what is happening around them.
Since children child live in a fantasy world, crazy stories, extraordinary or imaginary stories, animal stories, and stories about familiar topics capture their attention. Stories that include repetition, and allow children to interact with the book and become part of the story can become childhood favorites.
If we want our children to become curious readers and develop a creative mentality, we must connect them with picture books from when they are babies. There are many types of picture books to meet the different preferences of children. The City of Santa Clarita Public Library has a wide variety of picture books. “The Rat and the Tiger”, “If You Give a Pig a party”, and “From Head to Toe” are some recommended titles to share with your children.
The Rat and the Tiger.
Is a story written by Keiko Kasza. Rat and Tiger are good friends, but Tiger is much bigger than rat and takes advantage of his size to make the life of rat miserable. The moment comes when Rat tries to take revenge. Finally Tiger recognizes that in order to keep his friend, he must share everything equally and join him in good times as well as bad times.
If you give a Pig a Party.
This story is played by a nice little pig. The authors Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond have created this story about the a following the line of the famous story “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.”
If you make a party for a little pig, it will ask you for a few balloons. An action or gesture to please the pig triggers many more requirements that become demands. When you give the balloons, you will want to decorate the house, then you will want to put on your favorite dress and then invite your friends…..
From Head to Toes
This is an interactive story written by Eric Carle, who through the representation of different animals, teaches the body parts. The story invites the little ones to imitate their movements by slapping, hitting the ground, or simply moving their heads, hips, and feet.
