Come Celebrate Elephant & Piggie

1

I have a secret to confess…my favorite children’s books are always the ones that make me laugh and my experience has been that no one does it better than Mo Willems.  His series Elephant & Piggie is pure brilliance!  These early reader books written about a cautious grey elephant named Gerald and a fun-loving pink pig known only as Piggie take us into their very special friendship and shares with us their various comical escapades.  Not only are these books laugh out loud funny, but they manage to teach valuable lessons without being heavy handed or dull.

Now the bad news, coming out this summer will be the very final Elephant & Piggie book that Mo Willems will be publishing. It’s called The Thank You Book which, according to the author, was written to thank his audience for reading these delightful stories.  The end of an era is coming and it makes me sad.  So at this time I would like to share with you some of the life lessons I learned while reading and laughing through these wonderful books.

And remember, come to the library and check this series out, you will not be sorry.

Piggie needs to be going. Elephant wants Piggie to stay play Ping-Pong and wear silly hats.

Life lesson: Lunch is a good reason to be going.

We all love to play with our friends, but what do you do if one of our friends is a snake? And catch is the game you are playing?

Life lesson: Be inventive, and you can play catch with a snake! (Don’t try this at home.)

4Gerald cannot see what’s on top of his head. What would he do without Piggie to help him find out what’s going on up there. What they discover will surprise you and compel you to laugh.

Life lesson: A lot can happen on top of an elephant’s head.

Piggie is invited to her first party. What to wear, what to wear?  Can Elephant help her figure it out?

Life lesson: Elephants really do know parties!

Piggie has a surprise for Gerald, but he is going to have to wait and wait and wait and wait for it and then wait some more.

Life lesson: I LOVE surprises!
