El Doctor Seuss es uno de los autores de libros más famosos de Estados Unidos. Además de autor de libros infantiles, fue ilustrador y caricaturista. Nació el 2 de marzo de 1904 en Springfield, Massachussets y su nombre real es Theodore Seuss Geisel. Seuss estudió en la universidad de Darthmouth, Hanover, New Hampshire, y luego estudió literatura en la universidad Lincoln en Oxford, Inglaterra.
Cuando era niño, su madre acostumbraba recitarle rimas, las cuales le sirvieron de inspiración para escribir sus libros infantiles. Sus obras contienen muchas rimas y divertidas ilustraciones que cautivan la motivación de los niños. Desde niño mostró su talento artístico dibujando y escribiendo cuentos infantiles y las caricaturas fueron unos de sus primeros trabajos. Para algunos, sus primeros libros parecían tan inusuales a tal grado que recibió muchas críticas y el rechazo por parte de las editoriales y de los profesores. Sin embargo los niños y los padres lo aceptaron de inmediato y se convirtió en uno de los autores de libros más importantes del país.
A través de su vida escribió más de 60 libros infantiles, y entre algunos de ellos, están El Gato con Sombrero, Huevos Verdes Con Jamón, Como El Grinch Robó La Navidad, Un Pez Dos Peces Pez Rojo Pez Azul y muchos más. Pocas de sus obras han sido traducidas al español ya que el constante juego de palabras o rimas que él usa, hace difícil su traducción.
El Gato en Ensombrerado fue uno de los primeros libros traducido al español. La historia trata de un gato que usa un sombrero de rayas rojas y blancas. Durante un dia lluviosos en que la madre de Sally y su hermano no esta en casa, este gato aparece y con el propósito de entretenerlos, les muestra algunos de sus trucos. En ese proceso, la casa es desordenada y casi destrozada. Los niños se alarman cada vez más hasta que el gato produce una máquina que usa para limpiar y arreglar todo instantaneamente. Luego se desapareció justo antes de que la madre de los niños regresara.
Huevos Verdes con Jamón. La historia es sobre un personaje llamado Sam, que trata muchas maneras de convencer a su amigo para que coma un plato de huevos verdes y jamón. Al principio, su amigo se niega pero finalmente, ante la insistencia de Sam se rinde. Finalmente muy feliz termina comiendo y confirmando que le gustan mucho los huevos verdes con jamón.

Dr. Seuss is one of the most famous authors in the United States. Besides being the author of children’s books, he was an illustrator and caricaturist. He was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts and his real name is Theodore Seuss Geisel. When he was a child, his mother used to recite rhymes to him that later inspired him to write his children’s books. His works contain many rhymes and funny illustrations that captivate the imagination of children. Since his childhood he showed his artistic talent by drawing and writing children’s stories. Cartoons were his first works. His first books seemed so unusual that he received a lot of criticism and rejection from publishers and teachers, but children and parents immediately accepted him and he became one of the most important authors of books in the country.
Throughout his life he wrote more than 60 children’s books, and among some of them are the Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs with Ham, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, One Fish ,Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and many more. A few of his works have been translated into Spanish. He uses a play on words or rhymes, making translation difficult.
The Cat in the Hat was one of the first books translated into Spanish. The story is about a cat wearing a hat with red and white stripes. During a rainy day when mother is not in, the cat appears and in an attempt to entertain Sally and her brother shows them some of his tricks. He makes a mess of the house and almost destroys it. The kids are alarmed more and more until the cat produces a machine that he uses to clean and fix everyt
hing instantaneously. The cat and his machine disappear just before the mother of the kids returns.
Green Eggs an
d Ham. This story is about a character named Sam who is trying to convince his friend to eat a plate o
f green eggs and ham. At first, his friend refuses but finally, at the insistence of Sam, he manages to eat and confirm that he likes green eggs with ham very much.
